Chennai to Theni by Cab: Distance, Fare & Travel Time

Theni — gateway to the Western Ghats, cardamom country and the road to Munnar and Kodaikanal — is a 500 km journey from Chennai, around 8.5 to 9 hours of driving. It is a route where vehicle choice and departure timing genuinely change the experience.

Route and timing

The drive heads down NH38 through Villupuram and Trichy, then past Madurai into the Theni plains. Leaving Chennai by 5:30–6 AM gets you to Theni by mid-afternoon with time to spare. If you are continuing into the hills, tell us at booking — ghat-section driving is planned into the schedule, not improvised.

What the fare looks like

A one-way sedan drop is roughly ₹6,500 at ₹13 per km, though for 9 hours of highway we generally recommend an SUV or Innova for the comfort difference. Tolls and driver bata are either bundled all-inclusive or billed at actuals with receipts — your choice at booking.

Planning tips

  • Start before 6 AM — Madurai city traffic is the main variable
  • Continuing to Munnar or Kodaikanal? Ask for a hill-route experienced driver
  • Two comfort halts recommended — Trichy and Madurai both work
  • For families with luggage, book the SUV class from the start
