Chennai to Madurai by Cab: Distance, Fare & Travel Time

Madurai — the temple city — is one of the longest regular cab corridors from Chennai at roughly 460 km and about 8 hours of driving. Pilgrims heading to Meenakshi Amman temple, business travellers to the city's trading hub, and families continuing to Rameswaram or Kodaikanal all run this route with us weekly.

Route and travel time

The drive follows NH38 through Villupuram, Trichy and Dindigul — a solid four-lane highway for most of the way. A 5:30–6 AM departure from Chennai gets you into Madurai by early afternoon with two comfortable halts. If darshan timing matters, share your slot and we plan the pickup backwards from it.

What the fare looks like

A one-way sedan drop comes to roughly ₹6,000 at our published ₹13 per km rate, plus tolls at actuals or bundled all-inclusive. For 8 hours of highway, families usually prefer an Innova. Continuing to Rameswaram or Kodaikanal? Ask for a multi-city quote — one driver, one vehicle, one transparent figure.

Before you book

  • Start before 6 AM — Trichy and Madurai city entries are the slow patches
  • Trichy is the ideal breakfast halt, roughly two-thirds of the way
  • Overnight-return packages available with driver stay included
  • Groups above 6: a tempo traveller beats two sedans on cost
